It's (finally) time for reparations. It's time for the US to pay its debt.

How can the black community fix the wealth gap/economic inequality on its own?

Maybe they can ask Asians how they did it. Maybe a cross-race mentorship program or something.

Yeah. And maybe they can teach Asians and other recent immigrant communities to fight for their rights instead of running away to another country.

Thanks for demonstrating why African American community is so prone to failure. When shown an example of success, you respond with ridicule and dismissal, as if Africans have stopped "running away" to the US. Enjoy your broken neighborhoods filled with poverty, drugs, and violence.

Why are you assuming PP is African American who live in a broken neighborhood? It was a rude response but I'm not sure why you are assuming anything about PP's race and neighborhood.

We all know why. Ignorant racist fools will show their true colors. Everytime.

Jason, where’s the deleting and blocking?

What exactly is your issue? Reparations is in the title of the thread.

This. Again, it is hard work, education, no drugs, no out of wedlock pregnancies, and delayed gratification. If the black community can do these things, many of their problems can be solved. But they have to be the ones to do it.

To suggest that blacks, racialized Latinos and Native Americans should emulate other supposedly successful “minority” groups perpetuates, the false narrative that their asset poverty is due to a lack of hard work, effort, or ambition.

Thanks for the link. The article simply make excuses by pointing to anecdotal "advantages" held by Asian immigrants, and sites cherry-picked studies that confirm the conclusion, without explaining why African Americans can't obtain those same things. For example, education is given as an example, and the study claims "black families hold a longstanding commitment toward their children’s
education." But this article does not quantify this commitment, nor does it compare the level of commitment with Asian immigrants. Primary and Secondary education is free in the united states, and funding for schools with higher African American student attendance in Fairfax County, for example, is no less than that for schools with higher Asian student attendance. Why are Asians under-represented in pop music? Why are Asians underrepresented in professional sports? Is it because of systemic racism, or is it that Asians do not make efforts in these areas as much as African Americans?

Reparations could take the form of programs in all MC-UMC-wealthy communities throughout the country, bringing in black families and giving homeownership + education/training/childcare + cash.

So, please explain how this would work. And, what about those Black families who already are MC or UMC? Do they get their mortgages paid off and additional cash and childcare? You do realize that there are MC and UMC Black families, don't you?

Yes, they wouldn't have to participate, but home equity + cash + services should be available to everyone eligible.

It was just an idea...not a thoroughly thought-out plan.

Seemed like a way we could maybe:
Eliminate the wealth gap
Diversify our communities (strive for 13%+ black everywhere)
Provide long-term support to those who need it

??? You are going to force blacks to relocate so that they can be 13% everywhere? LOL

What is being factored in to a low income white family’s wealth? Is it because they own a home with a higher property value? Is this really all about housing policy?

So we have that same racist Chinese immigrant pp going on and on about his tough life, and why he supports Trump. I called him a deplorable on another thread and I am calling him deplorable here too. Why Jeff did not block him years ago is beyond me.
So insane he is that he is in favor of Trump to avoid dictatorship regime!

DP.

I appreciate your argument.

However, I am not sure that we can draw comparisons from the music, sports and entertainment industries. Such a small fragment of the population goes into these fields that it can be even more challenging to figure out how the few who make it do.

I think that more African Americans make efforts in these fields because they think that these fields are one of the few fields in which African Americans can shine. I would argue that discrimination, bias and lack of mentorship in other fields is part of the reason why they think so.

However, we can agree that a tiny percentage of those who make it into these fields are successful.

In great part, yet it is. Remember those nasty thread about absolutely no busing "poor" kids to Whitman and other predominantly white schools? Limousine liberals would rather pay than have AA and other brown kids move to their schools. You know property values and all that and cause brown is contagious. They are preventing some grand-kid being not blond and blue eyed.

Not force.

As I said earlier when I posted about this before I don't think this isn't really scalable or appealing to many (having to move out of community). Just an idea, not a realistic plan.

Let's start with Democrats to fund this reparations since we know that they're the party of slavery. Obama should sell his Hawaii, Martha's Vineyard and DC homes, which will be approximately $35 million to seed this fund. Dont get me started on Oprah...

Are we going to genetically test people?

She addresses eligibility in her essay.

Perhaps you can share that information then because doing a find on “eligibility” turns up nothing. Again, how much MONEY do you want?

Funny, you only suggest two black people.
