Are service academies like West Point considered prestigious?

One is enough for this topic.
Top service academies are considered prestigious and respected enough.
However it's for a different audience. It has different path and different life style
No need to exaggerate and trying to boost it

Different audience than the college and university forum? No. That’s where it belongs.

Looks like you cannot spell where you "group up". Low class.

I hate this type of question. You are looking for a barometer because your decisions are driven by what others think.

Sad way to live a life.

Comparable to #20 - #30 schools

Primary lesson of this thread - don't come to DCUM to validate your choices!

FWIW, my child is at West Point - loves it - 1550 SAT, lots of AP, sports, good GPA at TJ. When people ask where child is and I say West Point, my experience is that they have either never heard of it (tend to be younger or first generation US citizens) or express very positive opinion - not a lot of neutral reactions.

When is it to late to pursue an application to one of the service academies? My rising senior has suddenly become much more interested in applying.

It's not too late but they need to get moving.

Extremely prestigious and very difficult to get into. Lots and lots of options are the service too.

You honestly think West point is on the level of Emory and Georgetown??!! Service academies are not even top 50 at best.

Apples and oranges. Academically, West Point/Annapolis/AFA are around the same level as the second tier B1G schools (so, IU or Minnesota, not Michigan or Wisconsin): quite strong but not elite. But academics are maybe a third of the academy experience, and the rest of that experience is really valuable, too. As an employer, there's no way I look at one resume with West Point on it and another with Ohio State and say, "Oh, sure, those two are the same." Frankly, I'd rather see West Point that Emory or Georgetown, even recognizing that the academic experience at those latter two schools is stronger. (Others are free to value the experiences differently, of course.)

You're utterly delusional. I guarantee you 99% of service academy students couldnt get into Emory or Georgetown, nor would service academy students have the same med school/ law school placement as the schools or any other top 25. Just delusional!

You’re oddly defensive and ignorant.
