As an anti-poverty advocate, I think it's a big part of the problem.

I think it's a shame Beyoncé and Jay haven't used their tremendous platform to effect social change. Think about the impact they could have if they did a PR campaign aimed at teaching black tweens and teens that it's cool to NOT have babies until you're 30 and have seen the world/lived your life/had an adventure and settled down...like they did. Better yet: tell everyone to at a minimum graduate from high school.

Sigh...everyone liking this post and this poster are so ignorant. If you actually knew anything about black artist or culture you would know there are tons of black artist who promote what you find acceptable, ie Kendrick Lamar, J Cole, Black Thought, Killer Mike, Common, Lupe Fiasco, Logic (and these are just rap artists bc I’m going to go out on a limb and say you hate rap music and think it’s all the same).

How do you know they haven’t effected social change? Bc they aren’t in front of a microphone yelling it so you can judge? They both put their money toward resources and ppl who can help make changes.

Google the following...
Jay-z and Kaleif Browder
Jay-z and Trayvon Martin
Beyoncé and Freddy Gray
Beyoncé donates to Chime for Change (which is a health education program for women)
Beyoncé has Formation Scholar Awards (gives scholarships to HBCU for arts, music and black studies)

Now please tell everyone how you have helped change the world other than shopping at Whole Foods and driving a hybrid.

Black woman here, why are you taking this to the next level? I have loved B since the original Destinys Child but let’s be real, we aren’t going to pretend like her music is the same are we? I appreciate her giving back to our community. She should. After all, we have supported her and Jay, her momma with her attempt at a fashion house and even Solange. But this is about the music. And well. The new music sucks. You can try to mask it under black empowerment and a woman scorned over a cheating husband but it still sucks.

Great points.
Sure, but why would anyone expect her music to be the same? She was 16 when the first Destiny's Child album came out. She's 37 now.

I think that Beyonce is making a mistake in not growing up with her female fan base. But every star has to cling to their youth and sing to a youthful audience. It's like they don't see that grown women are beautiful, too, and can be sexy as hell, too, in their own right. But no way does she want herself identified with being middle age.

It's a shame because there is a ton of material out there - girls' nights out, married but being attracted to a boss/coworker/dad friend, dating after divorce, alone time with your husband after the kids are in bed, queen bee mom....

Too bad. Maybe Taylor Swift will run with it.

I agree. I think she will end up just like Madonna sad and "used to be amazing".

You both are delusional. Beyoncé isn’t clinging to youth like Madonna and has actual talent unlike Taylor Swift. Once Taylor Swift’s fan base grows up Taylor will disappear as her music is cheesy pop. occasionally

So you think Beyoncé should make music geared toward ppl who wouldn’t actually spend the money on it? Music that wouldn’t actually be played on the radio and music that wouldn’t keep her relevant enough to sell out concerts. Beyoncé is smart bc she realized if she wanted to stay relevant she needed to embrace the younger generation and make music for them. I don’t see it as clinging to youth, it’s business. She doesn’t lie about her age, she still looks great. Clinging to youth are Mariah Carey and Madonna.

What do you mean won't spend on her music? Middle aged people still go to concerts. Who do you think is taking their girls to see Taylor Swift? Middle aged Moms, that's who. Think of all the women who go out on girls' nights. Of course, they want to hear music that makes them feel good about their lives. Nobody likes to be made to feel irrelevant and old.

Women have plenty of financial power. Why would a grown woman like Beyonce worry about playing to the kids?

Middle age ppl like Beyoncé but you do not. The younger ppl love Beyoncé and will spend crazy amount of money on her concerts. Your once in a blue moon girls night out isn’t going to sustain anyone’s music career. Beyoncé is a business woman, dancer and singer. She puts on a show that many ppl enjoy. However, she realized in order to reach a new audience and gain their money she needed to change from pop. She needed to stand out and create a persona that would reach further than just the ppl who loved her during Single Ladies and before. She decided to tap more into the AA market and that tends to upset ppl.

Taylor Swift is for children who need adult supervision.

I didn't appreciate her anti police performance at the Super Bowl so have ignored her ever since.

+1 They're making millions, but they're definitely anything but elegant and graceful.

Congratulations. Way to take a stand. You sure showed her.

I'm sure she's really hurting by the loss of one DCUM middle aged white lady

I am a little concerned by the implicit argument being made by many of the posters here that being rich and popular = being better than everybody else. Is that really your value system?

She's not hurting at all and making huge amounts of money by showing young women how to dress and act sexy as young teens. If that's what you admire, then you have a role model!

First, The Blaze?!!!!
Uh
Yea
No!!
Second he lost me when he said she is made to stand out because of her race.
Plus, he seems to really hate “feminists”
He also hated Obama.
Matt Walsh has issues with anyone who is not an ultra conservative whaite man.

I don’t care for Beyonce, but not for the conservative reasons listed by some (anti-police, feminist, etc.). I’ve just never liked her music much. To the extent I even listened to R&B back in the day, it was the Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, not really Destiny’s Child or Beyonce.

I also don’t think she’s a great example for her fan base. Entirely too much focus on appearance for me, and the snap back thing after pregnancy is entirely unrealistic and puts too much pressure on women. I’ve heard on social media that people are attempting her crash diet, which is basically being called disordered eating. I also know at least one young girl personally who had an eating disorder, and wanted to look like Beyonce. As a black mom with a daughter in early elementary school, I don’t really want her listening to Beyoncé or watching her videos. I assume by the time she’s a tween/teen, Beyonce will be played out, since she can’t keep up the young edgy act forever.

What's to admire about a woman who twerks?

Is that what you want for your daughters?

She's got a pretty body and I see nothing wrong with her flaunting it a bit. Let's face it, she's an entertainer and her looks are her bread and butter. Another woman wearing the same exact clothes might look athletic.

But singing about her body in a disrespectful way "If you liked it then you should have put a ring on it" (sorry, that is just objectifying yourself) or some of the more recent outlandish lyrics she's been coming out with...nah.

You can be sexy and still have some self respect. Shania Twain's Feel Like a Woman is sexy w/o being vulgar. Beyonce's Love on Top is sexy w/o being vulgar.

Certainly youth does not = vulgar. I think she's missing the mark and hopefully she'll switch gears soon.

she was not saying if you liked her body put a ring on it, way to mis-represent it.
And I am not in the Beyhive - but get a grip.
