| I wish, wish, wish that she would read this blog and reply to some of the issues whom you all have raised (very well). I really do think they are good points and they are on a topic she obviously likes (frugality, simple living, etc.) so I really do think a conversation would be really interesting. |
|
Wonder if she'll get a real job when her kids are all in school.
Or if she'll put the ol' ute back to work so she can 'have to stay home' for another few years. |
I think that's why she's trying to get this blogging/TLC/etc. thing up and rolling. She hopes this'll blossom more into a viable, at-home option for her so she never has to dip her toe back into the wilds of the working world. |
|
To whoever said she's more along the lines of "Real Simple" . . . you nailed it.
I was trying to figure out what her blog reminded me of. It's that magazine. Pretty, simple but expensive and the money-saving 'tips' are things that I could never in a million years afford. |
Yep, this is a really apt comparison. |
No you don't. If you really did you'd be able to afford it on your salary. |
Not the pp you are responding to but have you considered that some people like to have DISPOSABLE INCOME!?! Sure pp could afford it on their HHI but they would have to cut back on other things. No one likes to be house poor and a slave to their mortgage. |
|
Thanks pp. I'm the one with the combined $200k income. My husband is a banker and I'm a lawyer. Back before the mortgage crisis bust...the formula banks used for home ownership was 2.5 times the person's income...so no, we couldn't afford the $800k house. We're people who pay our bills on time and don't expect the feds to bail us out or to pay our college tuitions.. we went to state schools and paid our own with working nearly full-time.
Whoever thinks this women in the WP article is "frugal"...doesn't know what the word means. |
| I hate Real Simple. Which is probably why I don't like the blog. |
|
I'm going to go out on a limb here and conjecture that she has been made aware of this blog. I mean, I don't think you can be a mom blogger in this city and yet not be aware of DCUM? I just find that unlikely. I believe she has either a) been made aware of it and has just chosen not to read it, b/c she wants to maintain her own sunny, blissful out look on "real simple" living and/or b) she has read it and is choosing not to reply, b/c she thinks it'll blow over, if she just lies low.
Shrug. Who knows. But that's just my two cents.
|
You took the words right out of my mouth. I liked Real Simple when it first came out; coincidentally, I was single at the time and had a lot more time and $$ for thinking about things like this, imagining my future home to be blissfully organized and beautiful like the pages out of their magazine, etc. By the time I got married a few years later and real life set in, I began to think increasingly more and more that that magazine was super-silly, so, that's probably why I don't care for her blog either, and find it all just a bit floofy and silly.
|
Ok so they CAN afford it they just don't want to? See there's a difference. Also a banker and a lawyer only earning 200k? You need to find new firms. |
|
If she's decided not to respond here, that would be taking the high road. And I'm one of the people who has said her blog is more about lifestyle than frugality.
Although it looks like one of you posted a link to this thread on her latest blog entry. Yup, once again I wonder why I hang out here with in-your-face jerks like the one who signed herself Meagan (although we share a taste for Mad Men, maybe that's it). |
Haha, my husband is a banker (a manager at that) and he makes $75,000. Banks actually don't pay much (except investment banks!). |
You are kidding, right? This thread is great for her. A bunch of people who never heard of her clicked for the first time to read what she wrote (like me). a portion of those individuals will then become regular readers. And the people who don't like her will keep posting on this site and that will be more free advertising. She doesn't give a rat's ass what you think. Haters just make her more money. |
