How does an incompetent person in the military get placed in a position to operate a significant military asset like a Blackhawk helicopter in sensitive airspace like that area of the Potomac near the seat of government and the DCA approach path? Human error? We all make mistakes. Also coils be instrument failure. We have no idea yet.

Agree with this. There are hundreds of planes and helicopters going through there every day. At some point, there’s bound to be human error. Something could have even happened to the pilot like a medical problem, or they could be extremely sleep deprived, who knows.

I’m not in DC so I’m curious - are helicopters crossing the paths of planes taking off/landing? That seems extremely dangerous. If there are a lot of helicopters, the airport shouldn’t be so close.

If they were traveling at an angle to each other it could have been a matter of not predicting that their future paths would intersect. The video doesn’t really show well the actual paths of the aircraft.

IDK. I've noticed articles detailing how today's cars can have the controls hijacked via internet/bluetooth/etc connectivity. I wonder if the same goes for airplanes or helicopters.

In the video of it, it almost looks like the helicopter was heading into the plane on purpose? I'm sure that's not the case, but it just looks so blatant.
