You think there’s no other public lacs? There’s more than a handful |
| william & Mary: wake forest |
Agree with a PP, Denison and Hamilton are not equivalent. |
Then what public school is like William & Mary's twin? Mary Washington? |
W&M doesn't have any exact peers but WF, Brandeis, BC, etc. would be the closest matches. Liberal artsy universities. |

Sorry if this thread upsets you, but by DCUM standards it has been one of the most non-confrontational, non-acrimonious ones found here. Too often people want to tear down a school, or a class of people, or an ideology. Maybe, just maybe, it is okay to put some of that aside once in a while. |
OMG no, Emory is NOTHING like SMU. Nothing. At all. |
Right? There are approximately zero people attending Emory at the moment who also got into Vandy with the same merit/no merit but chose Emory over Vandy. Probably Georgetown as well, unless the applicant is 110% pre-med |
Davidson is probably the love child of a marriage of WF and W&M. More intellectual than WF, and not as fun. Davidson is approaching W&M level intellectualism, but is way more laid back and more fun (sports, the smart subset of lax bros) |

What do we think about Washington and Lee : Dartmouth?
Try to get past the superficial (hot/cold, NE / Southern) and actually consider who goes to each and on-campus vibes and what their parents do for a living, etc. I doubt there are tons of cross applicants BUT I suspect a fly on the wall would observe a lot of similarities between the two schools. Drinking, isolation, wealthy, pre-professional bros come to mind. |
I don't see it |
This is very helpful! Thank you so much |
My kid went to Bowdoin and there were actually several kids who were deciding between it and Cornell although I think the vibe is totally different. Bowdoin’s vibe is more like Pomona / Middlebury / Colby Cornell’s vibe is more like the love child of Penn and U Michigan. |
Ha! Amazing! Love this |
