It's not going to "happen" for Chloe Ricketts. She may hang around another year, or two, getting minimal game but that will probably be it. Compared to other teenage girls who have signed with NWSL teams, such as Olivia Moultrie and Ainsley McCammon, Ricketts isn't successful. She's featured less and done less on the pitch when she does play. People are welcome to be a "fan" of hers if they like but she won't end up having a noteworthy career in the NWSL. She's accomplished more than most players by getting to play professionally in a top league however, the end of the line is in sight for her in NWSL. |
BTW, forward Chloe Ricketts has been called up to the U.S. U-20 Women's National Team for April camp in Kansas City. https://www.instagram.com/p/DWjaFm9DTaE/ |
BTW, that's the under 20 team. Her professional career in the NWSL Will not amount to anything special. You can be her fan. It won't change anything though. |
She struggles in her own age group. It's charity at this point while she fizzles out. |
Playing U20 WNT is struggling ... Lol. Yeah, not a star and maybe the best she gets is journeyman status but geez dudes the way you all want to take her down. She's doesn't even play here anymore! |
Nobody's "taking her down", Chloe's mom. However, reality is reality. People rarely cry for men's league players when their careers don't pan out. Why? Perhaps because they are men. She's a grown woman now, not a little girl. Equal rights is equal rights, professional women's league players can be subject to the same critiques as men's leagues. It isn't entirely her fault. Spirit can be blamed for signing her. She's 5'1" on a good day and whilst good, wasn't exceptional and couldn't have been expected to hold her own against legitimate grown women playing in one of the best leagues in the world. Unfortunately, Spirit may have been trying to sign "their own Olivia Moultree." It didn't work out for them. She should be happy for the career she will have had. Had she gone to play in college before trying to get in to the NWSL it's very likely she wouldn't have had the opportunity to be in the league at all. |
I mean sure Freddie Adu got his share of criticism but sorry, it just seems a bit more harsh than the regular critique for a player who hasn't succeeded in getting regular playing time at the pro level yet -- like people didn't like that she signed so early and want her to fail. It's like they WANT a cautionary tale to scare kids into sticking to a certain plan. But as you note, she's maybe succeeded more than she would have otherwise. And she's still 18 and far from done. I mean the way some people write people off is sad, almost depressing. |
Nobody in rooting against her. She has never played at any level for any significant amount of time or any significant accomplishment. It's no different than a baseball player getting drafted out of high school...and there are a bunch of Dad's saying...the kid isn't even that good...and most of the time they aren't. She does not pass the eye test. Never did. Probably never will. Next player up...welcome to the "pros". She is getting paid and people are entitled to their opinion good or bad. My opinion is...she would have been a decent college player. |
Ok, maybe not you, but sorry, for someone to refresh a thread -- about the Washington Spirit in general -- after 3 months to dunk on her is a bit over the top. |
|
What's your familial relationship to her? Or, are you this emotionally involved and supportive of every player who gave it a shot but is about to wash out of a professional league? If it's the latter, I don't recommend you read any soccer/football related message boards. If you think people are "dunking on" her you'd be in absolute tears reading European facing websites and what objective fans have to say about players who aren't very good.
At least she gave it a shot. Playing professionally, in one of the top leagues in the world isn't for everyone. To be fair, the Gainbridge Super League might even be a bit too much for her at this time. |
I'm not fan of punching down on people, even pros, just like I'm no fan of hecklers at games. They perhaps believe their saying what others are thinking when in most cases they're just loudmouths ruining it for everyone else. |
If Gainesbridge had any interest she would be there already. No one has interest. |
U20 - who cares She hasn't played significant minutes in Pro leagues for years!!!! |
| I guess my dig about hecklers hit mark with the rush to push it down. |
| Never heard of any of them |
