What does TT mean? |
Top tier |
I thought it would be more difficult due to a combination of an increased birth rate (post COVID), more families moving to the city (RTO), and main entry point becoming 2s. |
Remember it’s not the end of the world if you don’t get your desired preschool.
I see so many type As obsess over the “right” pathing in life for their kids. But kids develop on such interesting and non-linear ways. The highest ranked school is not necessarily what’s best for them. I try to embrace that as a parent. |
Any thoughts from parents on which school below to pick? Location-wise, Christ Church and PCSD are much better for us, but we do like the staff and director of STMPG. Want to send our daughter to a SS TT k afterwards.
Christ Church; PCDS; STMPg |
I think Christ church probably has less siblings and legacies for SS TT K than the other 2, so you’d have a better chance…. |
We are trying choose between WSMS and Episcopal
WSMS is more convenient in every way, but we are getting pressure from long time NYC parents/grandparents to choose Episcopal What would you do? |
Thoughts on morningside Montessori? |
It’s preschool- choose the most convenient one every time! As long as you actually like the school and the director. If you don’t, then choose the one you truly like the most, as long as your commute wont be more than half an hour or so (for me that would be the cut off- ymmv) |
If you want the advice of a BTDT Manhattan mom, choose the school that's more convenient. They are both wonderful schools, but you will find that being close to school when your DCs are that young makes your life a lot easier not only when it comes to getting to school, but also socially for playdates, impromptu outings at the park, etc. The convenience factor of being able to walk to school is even more important if you have a younger child or are planning to have another. |
I did a similar school commute for years (E 70s to W 90s). It is a drag, and mine were older. Exmissions at both are great (especially if you are a legacy). Pick the convenient option. |
PCDS or Christ. PCDS felt warmer and more down to earth. I liked that the teachers were very seasoned. Facilities were my criticism, but proximity to the park made up for that. Christ loved the rooftop, didn’t like the elevator up to the school (seems like dropoff/pickup could be messy). Community felt warm but leaned fancier. Exmissions felt the same, PCDS more single-sex leaning (more of our friends went co-ed from Christ) if that is what you’re looking for. |
Can I ask what you did not like about/would turn you off STMPG? |
STMPG would be at least 45-50 min commute for us, plus we are having another kid. Their space is limited and no windows. Otherwise seems like a very good school. So we are debating whether to choose Christ Church and STMPG. A bit uncertain with PCDS given that Betsy is leaving. |
