Ick-NO!

You must be, ew, Christian.

I don’t think it is the Christian’s who want the 2 weeks off—it is the out of area travelers.

For the rest of us who do not have $🤑🤑, 🤑🤑🤑 to blow on a Christmas vacation getaway—we’d be fine getting out 12/24 and returning 1/2.

This has been my experience so far. Particularly the Indian families.

Just how long do Christians need off for their holiday? They already get two weeks!

There’s also New Years in there. But I don’t think it’s even completely about the holidays, I think it’s also about the break itself. Personally I like having a mid-year (well, almost) break for teachers & kids, but I understand maybe others do not.

Then give 2-3 days off for Christmas and give a longer break at the end of the Semester when it makes the most sense. I hate having random weeks off right before the end of the quarter, it's so stupid and is absolutely not how the rest of the world does it. Even in Christian-centric countries.

This is actually false. Most European countries have more days in their school year and start way earlier. They end the semester with Christmas break. New semester starts in January.

Our European school started the first week in September and ended the first week in July! They also took off two weeks at Christmas.

I get the back and forth about the religious holidays. I do not get those who state :get rid of Christmas. Christianity has always been the leading religion in the US. I always thought this is why Christmas historically was given as holiday off. I’m in the boat that we don’t need two + weeks off around this and New Years. I grew up in New England and one week plus a day or two depending on when Christmas fell was great. Then we had a February break. It aligned with the quarters and semesters much better. This year my HS student was bombarded with assignments and tests before the winter break. Teachers made it like it was the end of the semester because there were 17 days off! Now the kids are back at crazy amounts of assignments and tests because it IS the end of the semester. It’s everything all at once. My kid feels like teachers are scrambling to get everything taught.

I like green or orange. I want a shortened winter break and I want spring break that last week in March.

Which does everyone think the school board is intending to adopt? Isn’t there always a front runner?

My family is atheist and want the 2 weeks off.

The one everyone else wants the least because that’s how they roll.

My guess is Blue or Orange. These are the ones that start 8/21, the main difference being the length of WB then determining the last day of school. Blue last day is 6/14 and orange is 6/11. Blue is basically what we had this year. It’s annoying that they can’t find 2 days to cut off orange somewhere else in the year so we could get out 6/7 because that partial last week is going to be a total punt week.

It's that simple.

Bring back a rational school calendar.

Yep bending to the whim of people who need their two week Euro and/or ski vacation. Immigrant families would prefer a longer spring break or a long break in January or February when it's cheaper to travel.

Those of us who want 2 weeks off aren’t all rich. Some of us drive across the US to be with family this one time a year. We need the two weeks for the extra travel days,

Oh please, it's extremely privileged that you're able to do that and you know it.

You get out late in June, but most of the families I know what family time in August rather than June. Anyone who does swim can't travel til August and that's just not enough time starting mid-month.

We vacation in June. There is usually a week between when school gets out and camps start.

I bet they don’t accept any of them. Each member will have a brilliant tweak to one of the plans and someone will have to scramble to create a fourth option that incorporates their brilliance.

We should not be planning our school calendar around your “need” for a two week trip.

Any time in school after Memorial Day is wasted time. They don’t do anything and everyone is mentally checked out. The earlier you get out in June the better.
