How is MCPS determining red, yellow, green?

you got what you voted for. Don’t complain.

MoCo needs tax dollars to operate.

Moco is awash in tax dollars -they tax the rain, they tax plastic bags, they tax backpacks, they tax alcohol, they double tax gas, they’re raising property value taxes again. Red states do way more with way less.

This. Democrats are fiscally irresponsible. Everything they touch they ruin.

Exactly. This is why massive, historical amounts of people are moving from mismanaged blue states to red states.

Is there one in this area that is measurably better? Genuinely asking here. I have a lot of friends in Nova and their complaints are similar, at least in Arlington and Fairfax. No, they don't have a color coded system but they are contending with similar staff shortages which may have them end up in the same place. And "O" days to boot.

Go outside of MOCO, FCPS and Loudoun County.

I'd rather work through staffing-related challenges, which are grade or school specific (and have the imperfect solution of subs to the extent that you can find one)...to an ill-controlled, non-transparent color coding system designed to get everybody into virtual.

Not to mention the federal funds that MoCo has received for Covid. What has that money been squandered on?

Someone was complaining about the restrictions they just couldn’t spend it willy-nilly that they had to spend on athletic fields for mental health. As if MC PS gives a hoot about the mental health of children.

Exactly. This is why massive, historical amounts of people are moving from mismanaged blue states to red states.

And hopefully you will be joining them soon.

There is no need to turn this into a red/blue thing here. MCPS is wrong, but MANY MANY (most) blue states are staying open, closing only for staffing issues. Nearly all the democrats I know believe schools should be open. The "close school" people are now very few, and they don't have science on their side, and we probably should ignore them instead of engage, because they have no influence any more.

Quit using COVID as a political wedge against public schools.

I just learned about O days recently.

I don't understand how those can count as instructional days.

Spoken like a bitter person that can’t afford to move. It just blows the arguments out of the water. They think that there’s no other place in the planet to live other than MOCO. Shortsighted bubble lemmings. But the saddest thing about it is they failed to realize that their policies are killing the very states they profess to love.

I agree with the bolded, but at least in my (very blue, relatively well-off) neighborhood, the "close school" people are very loud and they are absolutely convinced that they have science on their side. I can't even engage with my kid's PTA listserv because it devolved into hysterics about how we must close schools to save our kids.

As they jump into their Prius with a mask to drive… alone.
