Can anyone recommend a place for lunch within easy walking distance of the Zoo. We don't want to eat in the Zoo nor bring our own food. There will be 2 kids (4 & 7) so nowhere upscale & fancy.
Thanks |
| Cleveland Park is nearby and has lots of family friendly options. You might try getting yummy (and cheap!) slices or sandwiches from Vace (basically at near Conn/Macomb) and having a picnic - we often use the tables just down the street at the Conn/Ordway intersection. There's also a burrito place, a great vietnamese place with a patio, and several other international deli (greek/lebanese/etc) places along both sides of Conn just before you get to the CP metro station. |

Zoo bar is right across the street from the zoo. It's pub food--burgers, pulled pork sandwiches, fish n chips. They have a kids menu.
In Cleveland Park (uphill from the zoo): Vace is delicious but they don't have tables. Fresh Med is near Vace--on Connecticut just before Macomb. Little lebanese deli with great fresh kebabs, salads, hummus, etc., very casual and well priced (sandwiches for $6-7). California Tortilla is on the corner of Connecticut & Ordway. It's a local chain, but their food is always very fresh--it's our go-to place with our 2 year old when we want a quick easy dinner out because we can't be bothered to cook. In Woodley Park (downhill from the zoo): Petits Plats has outdoor tables and great pizza. Lebanese Taverna Open City--diner, and can get busy fast on weekends Chipotle |
| There is a McDonalds in Adams Morgan accessible from the Harvard street entrance. |
| Tackle Box in Cleveland Park may fit the bill if your kids eat seafood. Even if they don't, there are some non fish options. |
OP, if you're indeed looking for Adams Morgan options, you can do much better than McDonalds. Let us know if you want recommendations, but I think the Woodley and Cleveland Park restaurants (including a McDonalds if you're, um, so inclined) will be a bit closer. |
