baked potato for dinner

With well less than a tablespoon of butter and some salt and pepper, eaten skin and all. A healthy way to feel full and keep from eating other things, or a bad idea if I'm hoping to lose weight at some point soon.

How about substituting fat free sour cream and a small handful of reduced fat cheddar for the butter?

Sweet potato u will not need the butter, but both are carbs...steamed veggies( not roots/ tubers) and some protein.

Bad idea - potatoes are just simple carbohydrates that turn into sugars in your body and won't help you lose weight. You're better off eating steamed veggies and a small piece of baked chicken breast cooked with no oil and a little bit of seasoning for flavor.

Damn! It's embarrassing how little I know about nutrition. Thanks all!

OMG! Don't worry! A tbsp butter and a baked potato won't kill you. In fact, recent research shows that white potatoes have very good nutritional value, It's true, sweet potatoes have more n.v. and lowfat sour cream has less sat fat than butter, but if you enjoy it once in a while, it's fine.

But as it stands, it's not a well balanced meal. Consider topping with a protein (melted cheese, veggie crumbles-easy to microwave a small serving, etc) and salsa or broccoli or serve with a a side salad for a bigger nutrititional bang.

A baked potato CAN be a healthy meal, you need more toppings though, second the pp above. think protein and veggies. we make turkey chili without the beans (turkey and tomatoes) and top the potato with that and a dolop of sour cream, and have a side of broccoli or salad. And stick to half a potato.

Top it with Greek yogurt, no butter.

Yes, Greek yogurt that 12:19 recommends is a good idea - that way you get the protein you need. Fage brand has 23 grams of protein per cut.

That sounds yummy OP, I would add a huge helping of homemade caesar salad.
