I've never seen a therapist but think I need to. I'm just so sad -- for no good reason. I don't even know how to go about finding someone -- other than going through my insurance list. It seems like it is more important to have a good fit with a therapist than a doctor for physical issues. Thanks for any help.
Yes, it's very important to find a good fit with a therapist. Get a list of 5-10 names. Look at their info online, and give them a call if they sound like they might be a good fit for you. Most therapists will talk to you for 10-20 on the phone, then you can choose whether or not you want to schedule an initial appointment. It can be helpful to meet with a few different therapist for an initial session to "try them out." If you post your location, and any other requirements for a therapist, perhaps some people can offer recommendations.
I would start by trying to find someone who accepts your insurance. Think about whether you want to find someone near your work or home, day or evening, etc. Ask friends for recommendations or post on here. You can also look at the Greater Washington Society of Clinical Social Workers-- there are brief descriptions in the referral panel.

Thank you for your replies. Close-in NoVa and stresses relating to being a parent and having a relationship that is a mere shell of what it used to be.
