Vent: Dog poop!

Anonymous
First, let me say that the majority of dog owners I know are very responsible and clean up after their dogs; however, I just got home and found a big pile of stink in my front yard, about 10 feet from my front door. Two nights ago I took my daughters to a local park where one of them stepped in poop and the other could of for all the poop that was laying around. Why oh why?????

I don't dump my kids' poop on your front yard or in a public place: PLEASE CLEAN UP AFTER YOUR DOGS!!!

Do we live in the same neighborhood by any chance?

This infuriates me, especially since I am a responsible dog owner. Can't tell you how many times we have found poop at parks. A couple weeks ago we took a family walk after dinner along Sligo Creek and an elderly woman with 4 little ankle biter dogs (all off leash) didn't pick up after her dog. My 3yo DS even called her out on it when she tried to ignore it by telling her, "your doggie made a poopie over there." Her response, to walk over and cover it with a leaf!

Sigh. I know how you feel. I know MOST dog owners are great, but it just takes one (or two, or three!!) piles of poop on a walk to piss you off. It's so disgusting, it totally ruins my mood. WHY can't you pick up your dog's poop?! Do they think no one will see it? They just don't care? I wish I could find them and throw the poo at their front door.

13:36 -- My answer to people like that is to walk over with a plastic bag (assuming I have one handy) and say, "Oh, did you forget your bag for your dog's poop? Here, you can have mine."

You must live in my old neighborhood too. One dog was pooping regularly at the childrens' playset, never cleaned up.

I actually saw a woman let her dog poop and not clean it up. I couldn't think of anything to say, but was so mad.

There is a woman in my building who has made little lawn signs that say "please be a responsible dog owner- clean up your poop!" and posts them over left poop. I don't know if the dog owners ever see them and do anything about it, but at least I know where not to step!

Someone in my neighborhood let their two dogs poop in my front yard. I was home and I saw it and I went outside with a poop bag (I'm also a dog owner) and ask her to pick up the poop please. She just looked at me and walked away. I ended up picking up the poop myself and I delivered it to her front door. Never had an issue with dog poop in my yard ever again.

The best is when it cold for a while and you get to see a week or two of the stuff frozen!

Get a shovel and move it to the sidewalk. Dog walkers always walk the same way. See if you get lucky, maybe the dog owner steps in it. If others step in it, they just get mad at the dog owners who don't pickup.

There is a company would does DNA ID on dog poop- something on NPR a few years ago about a condo assn that made all dog owners register doggy DNA and then "followed up" on any errant poops left on condo grounds. Wonder if this is for real!

Yes! This happened in Baltimore:

My kid stepped in poop, then smeared it all over the car's floor mat before we realized what had happened. I had reasonable success cleaning her shoes, but soon gave up on the (carpet) floor mat. The replacement cost me $100.
