Pain level & Recovery - PESA/MESA procedure

Anonymous
My DH is about to undergo PESA (or MESA depending on the situation) in about a week.
He is wondering how long does it take to recover from the procedure, and
very important, the pain level of the surgery.

I believe some of your DH underwent same surgery to retrieve sperm.
Could you share what was the response of DH from this procedure?
My DH is taking 3 day off from work. Is that long enough?

Any comments is deeply appreciated.
Thank you in a million, in advance.

My DH took 3 days off work after the procedure. He was in a fair amount of pain the first day and had a lot of swelling. He kept an ice pack on the area pretty much constantly for a day or so. Ice packs are key to keep the swelling down! If your DH has a desk job 3 days off should be fine.

Basically he said it felt like someone had kicked him in the b*lls really hard. He took narcotic pain meds for a couple of days and then switched to regular pain meds for another day or two.

Good luck and I hope your DH has a smooth and easy recovery!

Thank you so much for your feedback. I really appreciate you sharing the story.
There aren't much information about these delicate issues online,
and as a woman, I would not know how it feels.

I'll have tons of ice pack ready for him.
Fingers crossed!

Thank you.

I'm the OP here.

So, today, DH underwent PESA and
we got tons to work with according to our Urologist.

The process was fairly quick.
As soon as he was hooked up to IV, he was taken by the nurse to the operating room.
According to the nurse, he was then put to sleep with a injectable anesthesia (general, not local).

20 mins later, the urologist came in the recovery room where I was waiting,
and told me "We have a good news. We got tons of it."
What a relief.

After that, DH on the bed was rolled in the recovery room, both eyes closed and sleeping.
For a second, I was kind of impressed that
"Gee, really a person can put to a medicated sleep that easily."
Soon after that DH started to wake up gradually.
There was not much pain at first.
However, as time went by, DH started to experience a lower abdominal pain (pain around the pelvic area to be specific).
He told me that it felt like a pain from constipation at the first.
After taking a high dose of Tylenol and few hours later,
now changed to a dull pain around the pelvic area.
DH says "the ball itself doesn't hurt, but it feels as if the ball is pulling something inside of me. And that feeling is creating the dull pain."

We saw a trace of needle puncture on both balls.
Ice pack is placed over the punctured area ever since he came home from the procedure.

Now, I am crossing my fingers on my part of treatment next.
