special education in DCPS

Anonymous
We are moving to DC, and our son (starting first grade) has an IEP for a language based LD. Where in town should we move to receive the very best support?

Not sure what IEP is but if you have special needs you might check out different school districts. My daughter had speech therapy in school (Lafayette) and we were happy with that. Many times they cannot provide special ed in the schools and usually parents hire a lawyer and get tuition re-imbursed for a special ed school. I know several kids ended up in Lab school that way. I didn't even think their kids were that bad off (both Adhd) - at least in my lay conversations with them.

The DCPS special ed office is awful. Really.

We were really happy with services we received at Hyde ES in Georgetown, specifically speech & language therapy and OT. I think they are renovating the building next to Hyde for a Sp Ed Center.

I've had a great experience at my DCPS (Mann) and had a great experience with the CARE people.
