info on Takoma Educational Center

My husband and I will be moving to DC in the fall for a one-year fellowship. We just found a great rental that would send our 5 year old to kindergarten at Takoma Educational Center. Can anyone tell me anything about it? I have seen the profile on the DC schools website. I care about academics, but since it will only be a year and since we will be completely new to the school, I am more concerned about whether it will be a caring, supportive environment. This will be a huge transition for our little guy (and us!) as he has gone to the same daycare/preschool since he was 5 months old.

Also, in looking at the various school profiles, I have notice that almost all have huge drops in test scores in 2006, could someone please explain what happened?

I believe that in 2006, the city changed the achievement test it was using, hence the drop in scores.
