| My boss regularly sends me action required emails at 4:59 PM. She's on the West Coast. Most of my team is on the West Coast, but 1/4 of us are on the East Coast. Then, once I respond to said red exclamation/action required email, she doesn't confirm. I spend 2 days a week left hanging at the office, waiting for her to let me know if my response is adequate. I often have to call her and ask, "do you need anything more from me." UGH. Just annoyed because I'd rather be on the way home after 5 on a Friday than waiting for her to write me back. I don't think she even cares or notices that it is obnoxious of her. And our company is very much a close down at 5pm kind of place. |
| I would send her a confirming email with a plan of action: Belinda, just letting you know that first thing Monday we will be having a meeting to take on the Jackson account and sending you a complete presentation with slides... |
| You don't have a blackberry or can't check emails off site? I would ask about getting that. That way you could leave and check your email when you get home. Otherwise, you could respond like other poster, but also put a deadline in the e,ail for your boss, like, "attached is xyz. Please let me know if you need additional information and I will get that to you by Monday, 9 am your time.". That way, even if she responds that night to you, you don't have to read it until Monday morning. |
Ugh. Please tell me that checking office emails at home ISN'T the norm now. |
It is when you have a boss that sends you an urgent email at 4:59 Friday night. It's better than staying at the office till 7:00 waiting for a response. |
| It is the norm. It is the necessity if you want to succeed witha boss 3 time zones away. |
