| My dd is allergic to peanuts and tree nuts, and I am interested in her being able to eat the pizza lunch on Fridays. Does anyone else allow their food allergic child to eat school lunches? I am going to do more research, but so far from my conversations with other parents and the principle. I think this may be a safe option for her. She is in K, so I thought that the first time I allow her to do this, I will go eat lunch with her to make sure it goes ok. |

Tree nut allergy only. Child eats school lunch 60% of the time. No problems yet. Don't know if child has had the pizza. My child is a few grades older though, and easily/quickly recognizes the signs of a reaction. How allergic is your child? |
| Op here - My child had peanut butter when she was 2, and she had hives on her face, but no anaphylaxis. Since then, she has had no reactions, and I believe no exposure. Her RAST scores have all come down, and they are all quite low. She has a peanut challenge scheduled, and if she passes that, she will also do a tree nut challenge. So there is a possibility that she may not be allergic, but we don't know for sure yet. I just feel that eating out - our go to food is cheese pizza, and if I ensure myself it is made safely, that she should be able to eat it. |
| check out the fcps website for the school lunch menus. somewhere on there i once found an ingredient list, with allergens flagged, for every single thing they serve for lunch/breakfast in the county. sorry can't find it right now. |

I would suggest doing own due diligence so far as researching the supplier and/or manufacturer of this food item.
Also, do you have this USDA form on file with school district? USDA document with form, page 34: http://www.fns.usda.gov/cnd/guidance/special_dietary_needs.pdf Virginia DOE link to their version of form: Physician’s Statement for Students with Special Dietary Needs* http://www.doe.virginia.gov/administrators/superintendents_memos/2002/reg008a.pdf Link to forum with many interesting discussions on this topic: http://foodallergysupport.olicentral.com/index.php/topic,3587.0.html and their archived site: http://allergy.hyperboards.com/action/view_topic/topic_id/20071 |
Why did you wait until 2yo to give her peanut butter? |
