McCainomics

A McCain policy paper says “The McCain administration would reserve all savings from victory in the Iraq and Afghanistan operations in the fight against Islamic extremists for reducing the deficit. Since all their costs were financed with deficit spending, all their savings must go to deficit reduction.”

If these wars were financed by borrowing, the most that can be expected is to stop borrowing. I see how that helps stop the deficit from growing, but how can it reduce the deficit?

On the bright side, it illustrates John McCain's honesty -- he's the one who said he's no expert on economics!

Hey, this can open all kinds of opportunities. Rather than borrowing money to buy a beach house, I'm going to reduce my personal debt with the money I save. I'll reduce my personal debt even more by not borrowing money to buy a Ferrari (and a matching Maserati for Maria). My only regret is that McCain didn't come up with this debt reduction technique back when I had college loans. I could have easily paid them all off by not borrowing money for something.
