How do I find a reliable financial planner

Anonymous
Our family financial planner is out of state and has become a little unreliable of late. We'd love someone who can help us plan and think wisely about our investments, especially for future college tuition, retirement planning and so on. Recommendations would be welcomed--especially in DC--but I'd also be happy to hear any thoughts on how you found someone you trust.

Thanks!

Me too. Most just try to sell whole life insurance policies.

You need to go to a fee-based planner. Anyone working on comission will oversell you on products you don't need. I can't say enough good things about AFS Financial in Bethesda.

We got great advice from a vanguard advisor. It's free if you have enough assets.

Thanks! Can you pass along the advisors name or location? Also what amount of assets qualify for free advice?

I would only work with a fiduciary.

Try posting your request on the Money and Finances forum also. I've gotten numerous great tips there.
