Does anyone know if there is a rule prohibiting tag during recess in MCPS? My son claims his school is not allowing it but I was curious if this is the case across the board or school by school. Apparently not even freeze tag is allowed. |
My DC says they are not allowed to play tag when they have "blacktop" only recess (because the fields are all muddy) or when they have inside recess in the gym, which is all very understandable given so many kids in such a small space. However, on nice days when they have regular recess they play tag without incident. My DC also goes to Bar-T in the afternoon @ the school and last year Bar-T halted the playing of tag for about a week because the kids were being rough and agressive. The kids got the message and tag later resumed and hasn't been a problem. |
In the school where I worked, tag was not allowed. It is not an MCPS policy-it's a principal's/school's decision. |
Ditto - no tag at our MCPS ES. |
My kids school prohibits tag because of "Self-to-self" (no touching others). Personally, I am not a srong advocate of this "self-to-self" rule. |
Is anyone else think that we spend WAY too much time worrying about and regulating the games the kids play? I suppose I should just be grateful that DS actually HAS recess at all. Kids need to play and run around. Now even tag isn't allowed. I have a feeling that in a few years more studies will show that all of this strict regulation of games and recess is not beneficial for kids. How will our poor little ones ever learn to navigate the world if the - gasp- might get hurt or touch someone else? |
9:02 - I agree.
self-tp-self? No touching? in ES? Really? |
Maybe you, and a few like minded parents at your childresn's schools, could volunteer to help supervise recess during the day -- or help fund extra recess monitors. |
