Anyone use a career coach?

Anonymous
Not for a total career shift, but just help in getting the very best job for you, in terms of responsibilities, compensation, etc. And help with resumes, networking, etc. Can you share some of your experiences? Was it worth it? How much did you spend? Would you recommend doing it or was it a waste of $$?

This is the OP. I am shocked no one has responded. Does anyone use career coaches? I thought it was fairly common and I would get lots of input. Please... if you have any info on this, let me know. Thanks!

One last attempt... any experiences with career coaches / career counseling?

My MIL has her own business she is a career coach. She works with executives, but does not work with CEO's. This is a personal preference of hers. I think it depends on your career level and your company. I know that some companies will pay for the executives to work with a career coach. I would like to work with a career coach, but it is not financially feasible for me. I do go to my MIL with questions and she is always generous with her responses but we by no means have a formal coaching relationship. She is good though if you are interested.

I have heard career coaches speak and I think they could provide invaluable knowledge and assitance in developing your career and developing some goals.

My DH does, he loves it. However he's "into" these sort of things and takes it seriously. He reads all kinds of business books and is always trying to work on himself in one way or the other.

His company pays for it though because they are grooming him for an executive level position. I think its pretty expensive. They set goals, make action plans, and the coach coaches him on his "look", how to handle certain work situations, and mainly helps him understand himself better so he can understand others. He has him read books, join toastmasters to work on his presentation/public speaking skills, and advises him in what trade groups to join to network with the right crowd.
