Really big poops for 2 year olds

Anonymous
Two year old DD is having a hard time passing her bowels. She strains over the course of 2 days that only result in a wet farts. When she finally does poop, it's really large - as in we've had to unclog the toilet type large. It's one big piece. The poor thing cries and it breaks my heart. She eats a lot of fruit and veggies and drinks quite a bit of water so I don't think it's constipation, but more that her poop gets big and it's difficult to pass. I've given her a children's laxative and the doc. said occassionally miralax is ok, but it's not improving.

Anybody else out there with advice?

Our 4.5 year old has the same thing; I wonder if it's because she's holding it so much (she doesn't want to bother going to the toilet) they get this way.. and its a vicious cycle...
wonder what others will say...

Fruits and veg do have some fiber but she still may not be getting enough if she's not eating whole grains as well. Try giving her some steel cut oatmeal for breakfast.

prunes. they really work. if your child won't eat them, try cinnamon, sugar, trying cooking them. or figs.

my son has issues with this and i really had to completely change his diet. all whole grains, no bananas, limited cheese, fruit and veggies every day. really helped.
