I am about 11 weeks pregnant and still feeling a good amount of nausea. I feel like I am eating really poorly and not enough calories b/c I just can't stomach much or stand the smell of a lot of food. I feel hungry but don't know what to eat, as so many things are making me fee ill. I am running out of meal ideas and have been eating out a lot to avoid the smells in the kitchen...but I am getting pretty sick of eating out as well. Just curious what others pregnant ladies in first tri are eating? I would appreciate any breakfast, lunch and dinner ideas that are healthy but easy on the stomach. |
I received a list of things to eat that should help lessen nausea. 1. Don't go more than 4 hours without eating and 2. each time you eat, eat a combo of protein and sugar. These two things together are supposed to regulate your blood sugar. Snack examples are: peanut butter, crackers and sprite; cheese toast, whole grain bread, fruit juice; slice of cheese and an apple; dry roasted nuts and 7Up; Wendy's frosty. Also, eat small amounts (duh, like we could do anything else), avoid greasy, spicy, oily foods including butter/margarine; avoid all sodas other than sprite, gingerale or 7Up as other soda (diet or not) has phosphoric acid which makes nausea worse; Keep crackers by your bed (saltines, not buttery crackers) and when you wake up, while lying down, eat a few crackers then wait a few minutes, sit up slowly, dangle legs off bed for a few minutes before trying to stand.
Okay that was all taken off the sheet of paper they gave me. In reality -- I do the cracker thing by the bed. I drink a gingerale for breakfast every morning and believe this helps immensely. For some reason I can stomach an egg mcmuffin -- so I either make that at home or I get one at McD's but I only eat half the english muffin part. For lunch I've been buying a grilled chicken wrap and dumping out the contents in a bowl. I pick through the chicken and try to eat a few veggies and then eat part of the wrap. Lots of peanut butter on toast, crackers, by itself. Lots of grilled chicken generally. Brown rice in small bits. Now that I think about it I guess I'm not really eating very well either....so...never mind. |
I was also very sick and didnt eat well in the 1st trimester. A lot of pasta with cheese, crackers with peanut butter, toast, salad from the salad bar at Giant. I also didnt feel hungry because I felt so sick but I knew I would feel worse if I didnt eat. I ended up losing weight early on because I was so sick but I managed to gain it back when I hit the second tri and started to feel better. Like PP said eat slowly and in small amounts... and drink lots of water, it helps the nausea some. |
My nausea is gone today after 11 weeks and 4 days or pure misery! I ate 10 buffalo wings and a sprite =] OMG my mouth is watering I think I'll have it for dinner again... YUM! |
Everything that isn't nailed down. |
I ate tons of pizza and fries, mac and cheese and fried stuff. Those were the only things that made me feel better. I also drank seltzer. I lost about 15 lbs, but am back on track now that I'm no longer sick. Amazing how the appetite changes. Good luck! It'll get better.[wmv] |
Plain white bagels w/butter, chicken noodle soup, and pretzels and coke were a comforting combo. Couldn't really look at salad or a vegetable. For some reason I tolerated frozen cheese ravioli really well so I had quite a bit of that, too. Luckily it didn't last that long!! |
Cereal and fruit. Oatmeal. Scrambled eggs. Cheese toast. PB&J. Meat is grossing me out, and sadly, so are vegetables. |
Fries with lots of salt. It's practically a tradition for me at this point. And burgers, for the protein. Something about the heaviness and the saltiness calms my stomach.
But don't be afraid...otherwise, it's oatmeal and fresh fruit and weirdly strong salads, like mesclun and tomatoes and blue cheese and vinegar dressing. I think of it like the Twinkie diet...if I'm still only totaling 1200 calories a day because I hardly eat, I won't gain weight. And I usually lose a decent amount of weight in the first trimester. |
In my first trimester I lived on sweet potatoes, cooked apples and oatmeal. I really couldn't tolerate any fish/meat or green veggies. Rice and potatoes should also be good. I've read you don't really need extra calories in the first trimester. Your body's fat stores should be enough. Also heard that your body resists anything that might bring parasites/dangerous bacteria. Makes sesnse given I wanted only the mildest of foods. |
Very similar to PP - Potatoes (currently in homemade soup, mostly baked and mashed), oatmeal, crackers and hummus, and for nausea, peanut ginger candy. |
I'm ravenous and finicky at the same time. It is hard to decide what I want to eat.
But at least I have breakfast figured out: a fresh yogurt smoothie! - low-fat yogurt + - banana + - pinapple. Or you can buy frozen fruit like strawberries or blueberries. It is goooood, and healthy, too! As for later in the day, my safe is tomato and cheese pizza or pasta with tomato sauce (same thing, really). Lately, I've been into PB on toast. |
I was told not to eat anything from a restaurant that is not cooked. If you want salads, raw fruits and veggies etc, prepare them at home, so you know they are thoroughly washed.
So with that in mind i would pass on the salad bar and veggie wrap ideas... I am not eating well either... lots of cereal tonight... PBJ |
