stopping progesterone at 10 weeks

Anonymous
i'm on progesterone and will be stopping at 10 weeks. i'm nervous about it (due to 2 previous miscarriages) i'm curious to hear from those who have taken progesterone for the first trimester. what happened when you stopped. did you miscarry or was everything fine. i've done research that says your placenta takes over by 10 weeks anyway so nothing should happen at that point but i'm still worried.

I'm sorry about your misarriages and I'm sorry I don't have any answers for you. But can you tell me how they knew your progesterone was low and how low is it? Did you start before your pregnancy? Thanks and I wish you all the best.

I had two miscarriages as well, then I went on progesterone supplements. I stopped taking them at 12 weeks and, like you, I was afraid I would miscarry yet again. It's really out of your control at this point though, since as you know, your placenta takes over. You just have to take that leap. Happily, I did not have any problems and am now in my 36th week. Try not to worry and good luck!

I was also on progesterone - stopped at about 12 weeks and no problems - I did have a miscarriage in the past - but later -closer to 20 weeks and unrelated to progesterone issues. Good luck to you - the hardest thing for me at least is to maintain anxiety levels. I hope you have lots of support!

What type of progesterone are you on? My Dr just put me on prometrium and I am nervous about the side effects that I have read. Did anyone have any while taking progesterone.

prometrium - i haven't had any side effects at all from the progesterone.

I did Prometrium as suppositories for the first trimester and everything turned out fine. No side effects, wonderful healthy pregnancy. If you're concerned about stopping at 10 weeks, you could ask your practitioner to let you continue until the end of the first trimester.

Are people using the prometrium as a suppository or orally. Does one work better than the other?

my doctor said the suppository would have less side effects.
