Drinking alcohol between egg retreival and embryo transfer

Anonymous

I've been pretty conservative and haven't had any alcohol for about 2 months leading up to the egg retreival. My thought process has been that alcohol probably isn't a huge factor, but it's something within my control and it's not that difficult (for me personally) to not have a drink. I've read research that seems to indicate drinking alcohol does have some impact on IVF outcomes. But all the research I've seen seems to focus on the impact of drinking alcohol before egg retreival.

I have a social event between retreival and transfer. It would be much easier if I could just drink a glass of wine. And it would probably be that...a glass, or maybe two.

Where have others come out on this issue?

Embryo isn't back inside you yet - drink the wine!

It's fine--go for it.

Why wouldn;t you do this? (only caveat is that I wouldn't drink the night of the retrieval because of the drugs you got during the procedure.

I guess a fear that it might ultimately impact if the embryo sticks. Probably far fetched, I know. But I think this process has made me crazy. I'm trying to gain control over the oucome when I don't have any.

Nothing wrong with drinking BUT if you will second guess yourself then it is not worth it.

OMG I was wondering the same thing. My retrieval is Friday and I have a party to go to Saturday, and I don't feel like going through the whole drama of explaining to people that i am not drinking...

I think it's fine to drink before the embryo transfer. In moderation of course. I think a lot of women do and if you get PG you won't be having a drink for 9 months so might as well have a nice glass of wine now, while you can!
