Is it possible to find/buy doll house blue prints?

Anonymous
I want my uncle to make one for my DD but he lives in another country and over there doll houses are not common... Also, I would like to look at the blue print first to see how big the house would turn out - we have limited space here. Any ideas? Is this possible?

Try a store that sells the kits. There is a toy store in Vienna that has them and they might sell something similar. I'm afraid I can't remember the name though. There is also another dollhouse store further out in VA. I think it is called happily ever after? It might be in ashburn? Sorry- harder to look these things up on a phone.

Might it be difficult (or perhaps expensive) to ship a large item like a built dollhouse from another country to here?

They have kits you can build yourself. I would think it would be hard and expensive to send a dollhouse here from overseas without it getting damaged, but maybe you could have the kit sent to him and see how it goes.

If the SIZE of the house is the only issue... Just tell him the specific measurements for the outside of the house that you want. For example, "Make it a square, 2' tall, and each of the 4 sides should be 18" long."

No need for a blueprint in this case, imo.

Having built quite a few kit dollhouses, I can tell you even the small ones are very hard to transport safely. I can't imagine getting one shipped from overseas.

But I bet you could find a local hobbyist locally who would be thrilled to build one to your specifications. Fair warning: they're very spendy.

This place has plans:

You might be able to get the books cheaper at Amazon or B&N, but I haven't checked. But at this site (www.miniatures.com) you can also buy components, like window frames, siding or flooring, separately. The components might be easier to send to your uncle, and let him provide the plywood for the shell.

The place in Vienna is Once Upon a Time, on Church Street. They have an entire doll house area of the store.

9:04 here - I just realized the first plan book is $4.76 and the second is $3.99, so skip the part about trying to find them cheaper, unless shipping to a foreign country is a concern.
