Beauvoir scandal. Time to retire and move to OT?

Anonymous
I suppose I'm not the first to mention this, but since the thread has veered off into such an odd direction, would it be possible to move it to Off Topic, lock it, and put a message in private schools directing people there? The addition of the teacher's possible relative posting is particularly disturbing. Out of respect for the other teachers and families, enough is enough already. The last thing anyone needs is a platform for this supposed relative to add insult to possible injury. TIA

Actually, you are the first to mention this. At the moment, I am not inclined to stop discussion on this topic. I appreciate that there are strong feelings on all sides, but the issue remains one of great interest. The Beauvoir scandal thread is now the most view thread in the Forums' history. Could you imagine all the accusations about me being bought off by Beauvoir if I would attempt to suppress discussion? I really don't feel comfortable trying to tell people what they can and can't discuss (and anyone who has been here long will have seen ample evidence of that).

As has been mentioned many times, there is a presumption of innocence in this country. The teacher has not even been charged, let alone convicted. If his family and friends want to speak in his favor, I think that is perfectly legitimate. However, they would probably gain more support if they kept the cursing out of other posters to a minimum.

At the moment, not all the facts are known. There is interest in learning them. I don't see a reason to stand in the way of that.

Understood. Guess I was just writing down what I've heard verbally from some impacted parents. They too seem to fear being painted as covering up. Didn't mean to propose restricting rights. Guess I wasn't thinking with my first amendment hat on.

It's pretty amazing, and sad in lots of ways, that something this sordid involving children in a very small community is so popular. Oh well. Human nature.

So is this the kind of thing that's a good selling point for ad space? Just curious.

Your administration is greatly appreciated. Thanks for protecting everyone's rights.

These comments strike me as very rude. I understand how parents are not happy that their school is the "poster child" for this situation. At the same time, the interest, IMO, is driven not by the sensastionalism but the concerns that every parents has as to whether it occur at their school. The defensive posts, again understandable, most likely had the opposite effect in focusing the issue more on Beauvoir and their desire to cover things up. The delay in media reporting again was a bad PR move.

This website did a great service in contributing to getting useful information out to the community and most likely forcing media to cover the event. In a time when the mainstream press is controlled by larger corporate entities or groups that could suppress information, the Internet is really the check and balance in keeping the original intent of a free press being available to all.

This was a low blow, no?
