Expectant and Postpartum Moms
.....what exactly does that mean? Can I lie down with a couple pillows propped up under my upper back? Or is it just plain, nothing on your back?
My doctor told me even a thin pillow underneath one buttock is good enough.
My practice told me that so long as it was comfortable to me for me to sleep on my back (i.e., not short of breath, no pain), not to worry about harming the baby. I often wake up sleeping on my back. Sometimes it's more comfortable to have a pillow under one leg or part of my back.
I think the risk of sleeping on your back is decreased blood flow to the baby, my doctor told me it was fine to sleep on my back. She said you would feel bad, short of breath/dizzy/nauseous if you were actually decreasing the blood supply, she said it would wake you up if you felt that way so I was fine for me to sleep on my back if it was comfortable and it didn't make me feel bad
I put a pillow under just one side of my back/buttock so that I'm not flat on my back.
