Good days/bad days

Anonymous
My 6 year old son has an educational eval. of either Asperger's or high-functioning autism (HFA). I'm also seeing more ADHD type behavior. As a parent, the strange thing about him is that one day he can be nearly normal in terms of conversation, behavior, focus, etc. and the next day I wonder if he will ever be able to live independently. His "swings" are really baffling. Has anyone else experienced this? It's as if sometimes the lightbulb is on and sometimes it's not. He's not on meds yet, so it's not related to that.

Also, the weather really seems to affect him a lot. Whenever it's rainy or a storm is on the way, it's worse. Very, very, strange.

Have you tried eliminating certain food additives? (artificial dyes/colors, gluten, etc.)

OP: we tried the GFCF diet and didn't see a change. We've really had to watch colors and additives, though. I've noticed for some reason Doritos make him especially "crazy".

Our DS, 5, has yet to be given a diagnosis, but has "toes in the direction of Asperger's" according to the developmental ped. He DEFINITELY has mood swings like you mention. He too will be on a good track, perfectly fine, and then other days he has no focus and is stimming all day. Could be seasonal allergies? (My DS has them).
