posting anonymously

Per the FAQ, I left the site for a while, but on my return I'm still me. Must I clean my cookies, or is there another way?

I'm anxious to know so I can start my Holocaust denial thread.

The easiest thing to do is restart your browser. But, I think there is a Holocaust denial thread from like 1989 or something that you can post to and restart. If you do that, the only controversy will be that you re-opened an old thread.

Very rarely, I want to post something that would tend (however unlikely) to reveal my actual identity. I think that it would be good if we had consistent screen names, but I don't think there's any value in everyone's RL identity being known.

In a discussion about this a while ago, one person opposed screen names for that reason, that this site is too small a world, so identities could be deduced eventually, I'm sympathetic to that. Though I'm still in favor of it, I don't think I've proposed it since then. (Plus, from Jeff's last blog, it looks like he'd prefer if we all STFU about that. )

Anyway, I'll try your fix, Jeff, and check back in if there's a problem. Thanks.

Yeah, I'm the one you're quoting, and I get it... FWIW, I started off here with a username also, but when people referred to other things I wrote in other threads and stuff like that i decided against using one again.. and i haven't signed in for probably over a year..

It's still early yet. Homosexuality reversal cure threads should really be started first.

There could be a random username generator to ensure that no one picks something that would identify them

You don't have me yet - the anonymity will be rare. I do have a semi-stalker here, though - I call her "Margaret White," since she's anonymous - so maybe I'll give in eventually.

The annoying thing is that b/c of all the anonymity, I'd be very easy to identify if I ever told anyone I know that I have a username here. Who know for what drug-fueled ranting I'd be held accountable? If the subject of DCUM ever comes up with anyone, I'll have to be like, "What about that TMWAU guy - crazy, huh?"

The idea is that regardless of username, you could be identified b/c you refer to the number of your kids in one post, your school district in another, your occupation in another, and someone adds it up.
