Kids With Special Needs and Disabilities
I was wondering how OTs operate. My child recently started OT services. The OT has not provided any written communique regarding my child's progress. She did have me fill out a questionnaire, but she hasn't provided any written feedback. I did ask her once after a session and she said that if anyone (school OT etc) wants to know more, they can always phone her. I did ask if I could schedule a phone meeting with her, but she said she's usually in session during the days. Is this the norm with OTs in Montgomery County?
I get 5 minutes at the end of each session. It's usually spent telling me what activities my child did. If I ask for more feedback, I usually get a one sentence answer. I am not happy with feedback at my OT.
I've been to a couple of OT practices and it seems to vary. At one practice, parents weren't typically allowed to sit in on sessions and, instead, got a 5 minute summary at the end of the session. For me, that wasn't adequate. At another practice, I was in every session to observe. That, for me, is really ideal. I don't need written notes or a debrief because I'm right there. I've learned SO much that way and makes it a lot easier for me to reinforce/carry on at home what happened in therapy. We've also had in-home therapy and I was present for every session and also got session notes. Didn't really need the notes since I was there.
No. We get a brief written report from our OT after every session.
My sister is a PT (pediatric). From what she tells me, I think you should expect to have a written treatment plan, and an occasional (perhaps every 3 months) written report on how your DC is progressing towards those goals. But on a weekly basis, I don't think most OTs do anything in writing.
Thanks for the info. We've been to this OT about 10 times now, but never received anything in writing except for the bill

Is anyone out there participating in any of the group OTs this year at Leaps and Bounds?
