Fresh Market?

| Does anyone know Fresh Market grocery stores? How do they compare to Wegmans or Whole Foods? Thanks. |

| They're the same in quality but much smaller stores. We don't have wegmans back home in Chicago so FM is the preferred store for high end groceries and premade meals. |

| I love Fresh Market for the freshness of their fruits/vegetables, atmosphere (classical music playing, free samples of hot coffee or cider), friendliness of the employees, fresh flowers, great take-out, and just the ease of getting around in a smaller store. Unlike Whole Foods, much of what they offer is not organic. Similar to the pricing at Whole Foods, however, they're pretty expensive. It's a smaller chain that originally opened in Greensboro, NC. |

| I don't think its quite as upscale, or large, as Balducci's. It doesn't have the selection of organic/gluten free/healthy stuff as Whole Foods. But its nice. I think of it more like the old Giant Specialty Store that was in McLean, with counters for deli, meat, bread, desserts, candy, coffee and a good produce section, but you can't get much in the way of processed food, regular sandwich bread, cereal, chips, etc. there. |

We've been to them in Greensboro. Really nice place, both in atmosphere and products. Beautiful produce and great meats/poultry, etc. I could probably use them for weekly grocery shopping, so long as I bought/stocked up on pantry staples elsewhere.
Comparing it to the Balduccis that used to be on New Mexico Ave....more square footage. Much more fresh and prepared foods, not as many packaged, imported things. Tone down the frou-frou factor of Dean and Deluca maybe? Are you asking b/c they are opening one around DC? Or are you somewhere that they serve? We were hoping that either the Senior Citizen Safeway on MacArthur or the old A&P off Mass Ave would become a Fresh Market. <sigh> (05:55 - where in Chicago is there a Fresh Market?) |

| Fresh Market is coming to the former Whole Foods space in Congressional Plaza in Rockville. Not sure if they have any other locations planned for DC. |
