Digging up old threads

Seriously, why do people do that? Boredom? Attention-whoring? Or have we run out of things to talk about?

I was wondering this too...

I think it is boredom and attention whoring. AND ANNOYING EVERYONE. It is just like the person who can't stop using the same phrase over and over ad infinitum because it was funny ONCE. Cut the crap.

I'd guess most were from searching. That's the only reason I've ever resurrected - looking for info.

It is often spammers--look at the school fundraising thread that was dragged up today. It's old, then there is a new post from someone trying to sell something, then a bunch of idiots keep it going because they don't look at the thread closely.

I'm sort of new to DCUM. I often see someone post " this has already been posted find the thread" and some people get annoyed at others for starting a thread. On the flip side I see a post like this that gets annoyed at people for digging up old threads. So which is it? It would be helpful to know.

I don't mind so much if someone has something new or topical to add. But seems like most of the time it's a silly response or something that has already been said ad infinitum-that's what bugs me. Sometimes, when something dies, it's because it's REAL old and doesn't deserve to live anymore.

IMHO, I would rather someone dredge up an old thread and ask if anyone has any new input than have ten threads on one topic. For example, there is a "What birth control are you using" thread practically every other day. If we could keep one of those alive and near the top, it would be neater and easier to find comprehensive information.

Actually, when I first came to this forum, I had no idea which threads were old and which were new. I was not aware of forum etiquette and that there was a whole structure to it. I had never really been to a forum before. I was using it for info and research. Now I know. I don't get why someone would be annoyed over this. I'm sure there are better things to be annoyed with!

I've been on DCUM for 6 years and wondered the same thing.

People get annoyed on the nanny forum about salary queries but because there are no standards, answers and opinions can change depending on location, economy, needs, etc. When someone chimes in to trash a business anonymously on a thread a year old, it simply isn't useful. Similarly when someone basically posts a 'this' in one form or another (this particular thread excluded), to a thread a year or more old, what is the point? Again, threads here usually die for a very good reason and should only be revisited for the same.

I can see resurrecting a thread if there's something to add to it....but sometimes the poster is just beating a dead horse. Like the dummy that resurrected the "Wake up fat women" thread. It was sooo long ago and no good came from bringing it up again.

Or someone will bring up a thread where the OP was asking about something....whether to do A or B...and the post is over a year old. Obviously the OP had decided by then which choice to make.

Before starting a new thread you can always do a search to see if the topics been covered already, or perhaps beaten to death. Read the old threads. If your questions still aren't answered then start a new thread with the question geared towards what wasn't answered searching the archives, but PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD do not post a reply to a thread from 2008, 2009, 2010!

JUST SAY NO TO OLD THREADS

Haha I read the title and thought someone was asking about where to buy vintage clothing or how to integrate older pieces into their current wardrobe.

Silly me.
