Allergic reaction or simply a scratch?

My son is allergic to peanuts and pecans. Tonight we noticed a red mark on his cheek- I thought it was marker at first b/c he'd been coloring. However, it didn't go away when washed off and shortly after was joined by 2 more red lines; we then wondered if they could be scratches, but the lines weren't raised like a scratch might be. They seemed like they were reddening, so we gave him Benadryl. My husband said that about 20 mins later, the redness had disappeared, as far as he could tell in a darkened room.

So, we'll see what it looks like in the AM but does this sound like a reaction to you or a scratch? He has been recently diagnosed so this is all new to us. If it is a reaction, just trying to figure out what could have set it off...

my son is allergic to peanuts and other nuts, dogs, cats, grass pollen. We have a nut-free house, but occasionally he eats something, or is exposed to something, that produces hives on his face. I NEVER can trace it to something specific, other than dogs. Exposure to a dog produces hives on his face. Why there? I don't know. But otherwise, I have no idea what triggers it. I cook almost entirely from scratch. No peanuts, no foods from a "facility that processes peanuts," etc. So....I wrote a this to say that yes, it might be an exposure to nuts of some sort....or to something else in the environment that he's sensitive to. Has he been tested for other types of allergies? I know grass pollen is bad again this time of year (I thought it was only spring, but I was wrong).

I keep those single serving spoons of Benedryl on hand with me all the time.
