Is there such a thing as an inexpensive photographer?

What I really want is someone to meet us somewhere mutually-convenient and take some family pictures. My children will only be good for about 20 minutes' worth of photos, tops. Then I want the photographer to email us the digital images to print out. I'm willing to pay around $300 (??more? less? ) for this and it seems like it would be worth someone's time (really just travel time, 30 minutes at most of picture-taking, and then emailing), but the websites I've browsed charge so much more.
Any recommendations? Am I crazy? |

I worked as an assistant many years ago. I would do it for that price and give you unlimited amount of photos. Do you have a site in mind? We use professional digital cameras. The owner also have other potographers in the area.

I'm also looking for this, my baby just turned one (sniff sniff) and it seems like the perfect time to capture these amazing moments - especially those between him and his older brothers.....
that said, I've gotten ok (some stellar, just by luck) photos from Penneys and can't find it in me to shell out hundreds of dollars when i'll get a few good shots for $50 or less.. I'd too love to get great photos, digitals included, for $150 or less...i'll check out the site pp mentioned, and keep my eye out for other recs |

There's more to being a professional photographer than just traveling to the location, taking the pictures, and then sending them to the client. Also, photographers ( who are doing everything legally) only keep about 1/3 of the money the bring in. This is not a lucrative profession for most. That said, you could look for a student or a photographer who is building his/her portfolio. And you'll hopefully get good recs from lower-cost photographers who post here! Also, experienced, professional photographers who do high-quality work sometimes offer mini sessions. They're short sessions that are typically ten to twenty minutes. Some photographers include the digital image as part of the session fee for the minis. This would be a good fit for you since you know your kids' limit is ~20 minutes. |

I photograph in MD, VA, and DC - If I am allowed to put my Photographer info on this forum, I would definitely be able to help you in your price range. I am unsure of the rules of this forum and was directed to it after a client said someone had recommended me on it.
