In reading through other forum posts I saw a mention of being able to deduct tuition costs on income tax returns if a doctor has said the child should go to a special school. Is this something we should pursue?
I am familiar with the idea of submitting a portion of tuition costs for health insurance reimbursement when you can get OT or language group therapy costs broken out of tuition charges. It hadn't occurred to me that we might be able to pursue income tax help. Background: After much documentation gathering/angst/effort (and hiring of expensive advocate), we concluded MCPS would not be a decent fit for DD in kindergarten this fall. She has challenges related to anxiety, language processing and motor process learning plus emerging learning disabilities. Because she was not in PEP, MCPS was not willing to make accommodations for her without "first seeing how she does in the classroom", i.e. we need to see observe her catastrophic failure before we make changes. |
