Hello all,
I was a devout Christian for over three decades, then lost my faith and have been non-religious for several years. About a year ago, I began to practice Buddhism, and have been doing so ever since. It has been mostly solitary, though my DH is supportive. We have two young kids (both under 4 years of age), and I'm wondering how to more effectively teach them about the spiritual path we have chosen for our family, as they grow older. I've searched for Buddhist centers in the DC area that have programs for children, but am coming up short. I would like them to have some sort of community in the practice (and would like one for our whole family, frankly). Any advice? Are there centers where kids are welcomed and can learn how to practice? Thanks

No advice for a center but we love the book (with an incredibly long title) Buddha at Bedtime:Tales of Love and Wisdom for you to read with your child to enchant, enlighten and inspire.

I don't see classes for children scheduled on the website but I have heard that they have classes for children:

For books, we also like I once was a monkey and the Jon Muth books (Zen shorts, Zen ties, 3 questions).
I second the John Muth books. They're great, and beautifully illustrated.
OP here: Thank you all for your advice

There is a Buddhist temple in Fairfax or Alexandria which has a program for children starting at age 6. I don't know which temple, heard this from someone.
Very interested in this too! If anyone has more info about children's programs in the area, please post. We are looking.
