My wife had someone come in and measure and make suggestions for curtains and cellular blinds for a large (72 inches) window and a valence for another window. The estimate came in at almost $3,000 which I thought was outrageously expensive! Maybe I'm just out of touch, but I would really love some suggestions for cheaper alternatives.
Anybody have any other ideas or suggestions of companies that may be cheaper? Thanks! |
| We did it on our own from Home Depot and JCPenny. It was around $ 300 total. |
| Same experience. We went to an "interiors" place in Rockville and the quoted $2-3k for coverings on some large French doors. We went down the street to Next Day Blinds and got it done for $350. They aren't as fancy, but they look decent and the experience went very well. It'll definitely tide us over for now (had an urgent need for privacy due to new house next door) and then we can do up the entire room later. |

JC Penney does custom curtains that aren't too expensive.

| I've gotten all of my window coverings (wood blinds, roman shades, curtains, curtain rods) from JC Penney's and had really good luck that most of our windows were not custom sizes. Even then, their custom-sized window coverings are not outrageously priced, and they always seem to have 40-50% off sales and free shipping. |
| Curtainworks.com for curtains. |

g-street fabrics
or better yet, attend a sowing class and learn to do the curtains yourself |
| If you want expensive and wide selection fabrics, I second g street fabrics. Ask for Desiree. She doesn't mind dealing trying to make it more affordable and will give you pricing up front. It was better than other shops i called. |
| Smith + Noble did ours. Very pleased with the quality and price. They measured and installed. |
| if you want decent and inexpensive, Ikea has great prices on curtains |
