Missing funeral -- Should I send something?

A friend just lost her mother and we will be out of town for the funeral and the several days of visiting hours. (We can't change our plans.) They are Jewish and we are not -- and I am not familiar with Jewish customs. Should I should send flowers, food, something else? Of course we will send a card and get together with the family when we return, I 'm just not sure if I should do something else.
