lax culture from an insider

Come on. Brooks and Pugh aren't bad guys, and they're not going to hold your son's hostage in a 3d lock-down facility. I don't dispute that 3d is a club pump-and-dump royale operation, but those are two good guys. Brooks also coaches PVI, and I don't pimp for that prep either. Haven't heard any horror stories about kids not getting their PT or their college looks because they won't be extorted into playing for a different club. David and the guys at NL do some good small group instruction too.

I think I am pretty consistent to decry spending $600-$1,000 for two days of lacrosse in Florida at the NLF or the Blue Chip over spending that money (presuming you are) on some development at the middle school ages. A shocking amount of lacrosse skill is acquired just fooling around with brothers and friends in the yard or the local fields. Mikey Powell once told me he and his brothers spent endless hours testing new tricks and playing H-O-R-S-E in the back yard shooting balls into a scissored out milk gallon hoop. Those guys came along ok, and it didn't cost nuthin'.

Every school year class in the DMV there will be 50-60 kids who commit to D1 college programs, and good for them I say. About 40 of those kids will never see the field. Then there are thousands more kids who will play rec, some club and HS and then maybe club in college. In a lot of years I've never seen Madlax or Crabs turn an otherwise weak lacrosse player into a first line middie at an ACC school, but I've seen them sell dozens of bench players to same.

When my 11 year old is done playing I want him to say what my college son said to me last summer before heading off for his senior year: "Thanks for all those years of hanging out and keeping lacrosse fun, dad. We had a blast, didn't we." We sure did. BTW, that's not some sublime daddy bragging. He hasn't played a whole lot at an Ivy, but has had a lot of fun and made lifelong friends in that program. Earlier this week he got into a doctorate program at Oxford in the UK. Which means a lot of pints and a lot more laughs. I'll click my heels over there, thinking of your post. Thanks for playin'.

Fixed the typo.

You're right. Men's tennis is the worst. Women's tennis on mute is ok when the outfits are revealing.

Of course it takes a lacrosse thread to bring all you gross lacrosse dads out of your current lives of quiet desperation.

maryland's #1 recruit this year who was also the #1 recruit in the country at his position didn't go to maryland, and instead quit lacrosse to enroll at another university. he didn't enjoy playing anymore and was burned out.

the two trends that won't end yet are parents getting more and more excited and involved in the recruiting process and kids getting worried about or younger and younger.

If there is an article about this, could you post the link.

kid's name was zappala. you can look it up, he played for a top club and top lacrosse prep school. was just sick of it and didn't want to keep playing.

leave it to an 18 year old zappala kid to be quoted sounding more mature than prep or club coaches and parents. says it all that he never had a break since being 10 years old.

St. John's has been interested in Giblin for a long time, so the marriage is not a shock. Although Horsey has not done much at St. John's, it's pretty lame to show him the door after just a couple of seasons.

Goblin is now at Good Counsel as asst. lacrosse coach. Don't know what happened at SJC but he's gone from there in a short time.

^^Giblin. Sorry Freudian slip...

That sounds like one hot mess in many places. Georgetown Prep administrators are likely feeling pretty smug for managing to get this train out of their station.

Believe me, Prep administration was very happy to see Giblin go!

The guy was a total jerk, he would openly bad mouth Prep administrators including, his boss, Danny Paro, the longtime AD.

He will be forced out of SJC with in a year unless the SJC AD is that desperate to build a program and deal with his sideline behavior.

Starting to wonder why it seems like too much to hope for that these lacrosse prep and club guys could be decent people, mentors and role models.
