S/O of the Brazilian v. Japanese thread:
I have shoulder length hair with medium layers. It's blah- pretty frizzy (not sticking out straight, but not at all smooth, especially in the heat). It kinda just hangs there. Thick enough. Looks very good with a professional blowout but that's not happening everyday. Used to look good enough when I blowdried it myself, but not anymore and frankly I don't want to spend hours on it anyway. What can I do? I know a hood haircut matters but I'm starting to think it's my hair - or likely the way I style it- that is causing the problems. |
| Oh yeah- a pony tail is okay, but that is starting to literally be the only thing I feel like looks normal. I spent a while blowdrying it the other day and then pulled it back in a barrret (because it looked blah otherwise) and even THEN it looked silly. (My hair is curly underneath, and it was sticking out funny)... |
| Try brushing or combing before you shower but not after and see what it looks like. You may have natural curls that look good. |
| What products are you using? I used to think their claims were all bullshit but they actually can make a big difference. |

You many not get much from your hair until you completely grow out your hair and cut off the portion that was chemically damaged by the blowouts. My sister did that to her hair and she looks awful....lifeless and stringy.
There are a lot of products for curly hair out there. You don't have to have curly hair to use them though...they just help cluster the hair so that you don't have as much friz. Curls Rock is one that I love. Another one is the Aquage Curl Defining Creme. I use both of these together to get a soft feel to my hair that controls friz nicely. I hope you can find your way out of "blowout hell". |
Any specific suggestions? I used to use some of that silicone stuff (the one in the small-ish bottle you only use a little bi of) and also have used stuff for curly hair by Bumble and Bumble. The later looked weird to me (probably more curl and less frizz, overall, but wasn't a good look for me) and the former didn't help enough... |
Thanks! THe thing is, I rarely blow-dry my hair or have it blowdried (just know that it is physically posible for it to look normal since with blowdries, it can!) |
| I use Paul Mitchel Super-Skinny serum after I wash my hair (1-2 squirts is all you need). Apply from the bottom/back and work up. Also, sulfate-free shampoos/conditioners cut down on the frizz since they don't dry hair out. Don't rub you hair with a towel after you wash it, squeeze the water out and either let it dry from there or wrap it up in a towel; towel-drying creates more frizz. I also only wash my hair every few days and use a dry shampoo in between. |
| Do a search on this forum for " frizzy boob cut." I think it will help. |
Does the dry shampoo get rid of the oil at the scalp? Thta is the #1 reason my hair is in a pony tail every.single.day. Even if i take the time to blow dry in the morning (rare!) by the afternoon it's flat on top and doesn't look great. I wondered if a dry shampoo could be the answer to my issue ? |
| I saw huge improvement in my hair after I stpped washing it everyday. I now wash it twice a week. Also, Kerastasse products have really made a difference. I use their shampoo, moisturizing mascara and the oil before I blow dry. |
Yes, it does! I've found that the powder version (almost looks like a squirt bottle) works way better than the aerosol sprays since you can the tip of the bottle in lines down your scalp (front to back). This is what I use: http://www.amazon.com/Oscar-Blandi-Pronto-Dry-Shampoo/dp/B000Z65DZG It took a few tries to get the right amount of pressure when squeezing the bottle so I didn't get too much. I usually use it at night. Some people find the lemon scent overpowering, but I kind of like it
