Irene and east coast media bias

Making out to be way bigger than it should be. As someone from NC who has seen their share of hurricanes I fault CNN for creating this mass hysteria.

I agree it seems over hyped so far. But they're just trying to increase web hits. No matter what region.

8 dead 800,000 out of power in VA and 500,000 out in NC. And mayor. Bloomberg is calling for evacuations. I don't think the press made that up.

I do think however that there are people who only think something is important I'd it affects them. Actually I don't think much of those people.

There's no question that there's been a major impact in some areas but they also seem to have over-estimated the extent of that impact.

THIS. Irene tore through the Caribbean, several people have already died in hurricane related deaths, hundreds of thousands are without power, a tornado ripped through Lewes, DE, etc. Just because the immediate DC area hasn't experience apocalyptic storm related disaster does not mean the storm isn't dangerous and hasn't caused people harm.

It's kind of like the "if a tree falls in the forest" idea, just because YOU don't see the intensity or devastation does not mean it's not happening to someone else.

Anything that affects New York City is going to get 50x the attentino of a similar event, anywhere else.

There was a HUGE flood in Nashville TN in May 2010 that we heard almost nothing about. True people were riveted by the Gulf Oil Spill, but the attempt to bomb Times Square seemes to have managed to get plenty of attention around the same time.

New York City will win, no matter what.

How does the hype translate to East Coast media bias? Hype is hype.

Which coast is NC on again?

If the complaint is that we're paying too much attention to this storm relative to others that have hit NC, how exactly is that East Coast bias?

Are we ignoring all of the west coast hurricanes?

Considering the West Coast doesn't have hurricanes, then yes, we are ignoring them.
