We see Dr. Timothy O'Mara at Virginia Pediatrics & Adolescent Center is Springfield (they also have offices in Fair Oaks) and really like him. He was the one who picked up that my youngest had some challenges. DS was scooting on his bottom rather than crawling and Dr. O'Mara also noted some low tone. He said research was showing that kids who skip crawling sometimes have challenges later and he suggested an evaluation through Infant Toddler - it was free so what did we have to lose? That's how we learned DS had developmental delays even though he was meeting his milestones. We later had our oldest evaluated and he, too, has some challenges that 99% of people wouldn't catch. We've found Dr. O'Mara very responsive, easy to work with and excellent with the kids (we have 3). We also see a developmental pediatrician and Dr. O'Mara is very collaborative. I also find him very practical. http://www.vpacmd.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/site.physicians/action/dtl/phys/99800680.cfm

I saw Dr. Hope Scott Speak at a CHADD meeting (I think it was CHADD) last year and was very impressed with her. She seemed so very knowledgeable about current research and she clearly knew the challenges of raising a kid with developmental challenges. I found her sympathetic, practical and approachable. If we weren't happy with Dr. O'Mara, I would consider changing to Dr. Scott even though Reston would be a hike for us. http://www.rtcpeds.com/

We go to Reston Pediatrics, but recently went to Dr. Hope Scott at Reston Town Center Pediatrics for a developmental evaulation for our son. We did a parent visit (about an hour) , and she saw my son. We had suspected Asperger's. I felt she was very knowledgeable, and we only had to wait a few months to see her. She was really thorough with us, my ds was very disagreeable the day we saw her, so I felt i wish she had more time with him (he basically layed on the floor and interacted with her a little now and then), but she had so much great information for us, and was very helpful. She is known to run very late due to taking time with patients, so I requested that the nurse call me when she had taken the patient before us (this was the nurses suggestion) and she did. We live in Reston, so it was convenient. Talking to Dr. Scott, I felt like she was very up to date on the latest research, the changes in the DSM, and also listened to all our concerns. She also saw all the concerns that had been brought up by us and our play therapist and FCPS and was willing to advocate for us in the schools when needed (we are currently set for our K IEP).

We do not plan to change peds, due to a long family history with Reston Pediatrics, but do plan to keep her as our dev. ped.

RTC Peds is our regular ped. We've seen doctor Scott for a regular visit and we usually see Dr. DiPaola. We've also seen Dr. Ascrizzi and pretty much everyone else in the practice at one time or another. In general, the practice is very open to PT and treatments for delays. We are dealing with a very minor issue -- hypotonia and torticollis. My 18 month old is still not walking and has been in PT since she was 3 weeks.

RTC peds has been extremely supportive and I've been very happy with the way they've handled all issues and referrals to outside specialists.
