Do you think a buying a generator is a good idea? My DH just found a store that has a few left. 2000W - I'm being told it will run fridge and a few lights.

What kind of house are you in? Are you close enough to neighbors that the sound will bug them? If not, go for it.

Good grief.

Medication is what you need.

Remember it'd cost you several hundred to replace the food you gotta throw out.

Yes. If you don't use it this weekend, it will likely come in handy at least once or twice within the next year.

DH bought a generator a while ago and it's come in handy for all sorts of random things. He uses it regularly for tailgating, (seriously - they watch games on TV in a parking lot while waiting for the game they're going to see live. I still haven't decided if it's awesome or just excessive ), it's been used for camping, for doing stuff too far from the house for a regular extension cord, and too many other things to count.

if you can still get one, go for it

Do you live in MoCo? Are you served by PEPCO?

If so, then, yes, by all means, get the generator.

Ah, the great outdoors. Nature, fresh air, birds chirping, TV, fan, cold beer....

Just bought a beef tenderloin (fliet mignon when sliced) worth $100 plus other various meats (hamburger, chicken, pork, etc) would be one thing I don't want to lose.

You eat too much meat...if your power goes out and you lose it all, your arteries will throw a party.

Who cares if the sound bugs the neighbors?

We paid $10K for ours 7 years ago.

worth EVERY penny- during two hurricanes and Snowmageddon

saved our food, kept us warm, allowed us to watch TV

kept me sane with two small children

The more you pay, the better the generator - and the less noise it makes.

I will NEVER move w/o buying a generator! never!

We have hundreds of dollars of food, too.

How hard is that? I just spent over $100 at the grocery store today - and that was for ONE meal, fruit, and lunches for the kids.

What do you all eat? celery?

Depends on where you live. I've lived in my neighborhood for 9 years now (VA) and the longest we've ever gone without power was about 36 hours. So no, we wouldn't bother. But if I lived in MD, oh yeah, you betcha!!
