almost 11 weeks and spotting/light bleeding?

Anonymous
anyone else have this? i've had 2 ultrsounds since this on again/off again spotting/light bleeding (no cramping) has occurred (in the last 10 days or so) and all appears fine on the ultrasound; strong heartbeat, no visisble signs of placenta bleeding etc. but it's still very unnerving to me. just wondering if others have experienced something similar that hopefully turned out to be nothing...

I had spotting from 8 - 10 weeks, one incidence of very heavy bleeding. The doctors saw a clot on my ultrasound from all the bleeding but it had disappeared by 12 weeks. Everything turned out fine. The doctors said it could be subchorionic hemerage, a broken blood vessel or a small piece of placenta had broken off.

I had light brown spotting off and on from 8 - 14 weeks. Like you, I had two ultrasounds during that time, baby was fine and doctors thought a low-lying placenta (which eventually resolved) might be the reason. I hear you, it was AWFUL having that happen and always worrying. But, my baby was totally fine, carried to term, totally healthy. Of course, AFTER it went away, i started hearing about all these people it happened to and it was nothing.

Good luck OP, try not to worry, and congrats on the pregnancy!

In case OP is still reading responses, I was seven or eight weeks when I had some light spotting. My doctor told my husband and I not to have sex for a while (having sex seems to be what might have brought the problem on). Everything turned out to be just fine and I have had a lovely pregnancy since then --I am now about 33 weeks. Just keep working with your doctor. Best of luck to you!

I had bleeding and spotting from 5-7 weeks in this pregnancy and since I've had a previous M/C, I was totally freaked. The doctors were concerned but almost blase once they confirmed all was well on the ultrasound. Evidently 1 in 4 women experience this. I read tons on the internet about this issue... and there is a lot that may panic you (subchorionic hemmoraging, for example, although even here I personally know of at least 2 happy endings with this) and probably ten times as much that should reassure you. I came upon a great discussion like this one via the Berkeley parents network - it came up on a Google search and it literally seemed like a lifesaver to me -- since I equated bleeding with M/C, I was shocked and hugely relieved to see so many people report that they had had bleeding with absolutely no problems for the pregnancy. I realize that this is just anecdotal, but if you need a mental boost, I've pasted the link below.

I had spotting with both my pregnancies - one with clots - and all is fine (thus far). One child is 2 and I'm currently 25 weeks. I had a subschiorinic (sp) hemmorage with the first one and it resolved, they don't know why the second one happened. I can totally appreciate the level at which you freak out at this - I don't think I go to the bathroom without holding my breath to check the TP to see if there's blood on it.

In any event, my mom (a perinatal nurse practitioner) asked her colleague (a well-respected perinatologist) and they said up to 40% of women spot in their pregnancies! I never knew it was so high. It seems so common, the more posts I read and the more people I talk with. Good luck, I hope it stops for your sanity.

Hi - I'm new to the Expectant Mom's forum and am so glad I found this post. I have a prior M/C - six months ago and we just found out we're pregnant! I have been spotting for almost 8 days, on and off, nothing heavy and have been absolutely freaked out about it. I haven't even been to the doctor yet, as we just took the HPT yesterday. I'm hoping that all is well with the baby and that the spotting is completely normal.

My sister had heavy bleeding (preceded and followed by spotting) at 11 weeks, while traveling out of the country. Having had a MC 6 months earlier, she was very concerned (indeed she undoubtedly would have been in any case), particularly b/c she was in a foreign country with a medical system with which she was totally unfamiliar. They did an ultrasound, and everything was fine -- they dedected a strong heartbeat, etc. When she flew back home 2 days later, her obgyn did another ultrasound and tests, and all was well. They couldn't really ever explain the bleeding, and chalked it up to a potential 'phantom twin' that aborted itself....though they just weren't sure. She is now 8 months pregnant, healthy, and everything is looking very good for a Labor Day weekend delivery.
