Alternative non-nut butters?

Anonymous
DS was just diagnosed with peanut and pecan allergies, so nuts are out for him. Any recs for a non-nut butter? Bonus points if the older sibling who loves peanut butter won't bat an eyelash at eating it.

TIA!

We get the soy nut butter from Giant/safeway but I don't pay much attention to the brand (I M Healthy?). Can't promise the older one won't complain.

Sunflower seed butter is pretty tasty. We get ours at whole foods.

We eat almond butter and sunflower seed butter. Trader Joe's has a good selection.

you could try tahini--it's good with jelly

Sunflower seed butter is really good. You can get it at Trader Joe's. I much prefer it to soy nut butter, which has a yucky after taste.

Avid peanut butter lover here, also Mom of peanut and nut allergic child. Sunflower seed butter by far gets my vote, over soy nut butter and almond butter and any other substitute I have tried. It tastes most similar to PB. We eat sunbutter brand, available at whole foods. Also, check out the peanut free planet website - lots of peanut free and nut free goodies.

OP here. Thanks, all. We did end up getting a sunflower seed butter from Giant last night. The allergic child (who has never had peanut butter before) turned his nose up at it and just licked the jelly off the sandwich. The non-allergic older sibling shoveled it in and asked for seconds.

It does taste pretty good! Though, the green color is slightly off-putting, but I'm grateful to have found something...

FYI - the soy butter is nasty. I couldn't take a second bite and tossed the whole jar. I wouldn't even make dog treats with it.

I eat and like nearly everything.

Sunflower seed butter should not be green - perhaps giant turnover of stock not high? Trader Joe's has it the cheapest locally, and if you get into it, you can buy giant gallon tubs on sunbutter website.

Sunbutter brand is the same color as PB - not sure what you got that was green!

OP here. Should clarify- not green green but more like olive fatigue green. It wasn't the sun butter brand, though. Can't remember what brand...

We also have a peanut/pecan allergic child. We eat tons of Sunbutter as well. We have a subscription with amazon.com and you can choose how often to have it delivered. Shipping is free and the price is lower than buying at Whole Foods or any other stores.

Almonds are nuts, ding-dong. Please don't host any playdates with kids who have food allergies.
