Have never been to the Boardwalk Plaza, but we stay at the Bellmoor every year, and it is wonderful.

I thought Boardwalk plaza was borderline dump for the price and 400 sounds about right. Now it has a cute restaurant but the rooms have an old and moldy feel-I am sure some of it has to do with the fact that it's an old building and it's by the shore but we hated it. Did have a great location if that is a priority and the bummer is that I really don't think there is any truly fine hotel at the shore so it may very well be the best if you must stay in a hotel.

The Boardwalk Plaza has always struck me as overpriced and cheesy. The only advantage it has over hte Bellmoor (where I've stayed in the off-season) is that it's on the boardwalk, meaning right on the beach. If beachfront appeals to you, check out The Henlopen. It's at the quiet north end of the boardwalk, and it's rates are far more reasonable than the Plaza.

thank you! the boardwalk was apparently completed renovated recently. would that make a difference? is the bellmoor nicer than the boardwalk?

It may if it was renovated this year since I was there last year. My mom and dad stayed there last weekend for a wedding and had a nice time but keep in mind that they were on the concierage floor which may much more updated--and I think there was some kind of cool rooftop deck. I am sorry if I am a downer but I hate air conditioning that is in the wall--it just feels like and smells like mildew and also hate those old time coverings on the bed that look like your grandmas drapes but...again this may be the nicest in Rehobeth so the other examples may be worse. If you are staying for a week you may look into renting a condo which may be a lot nicer. but hey in the end..you are getting away so no matter what, you will have a great time!!

I'm the 22:07 poster, and my "cheesy" comment was in reference to the overall feel of the Plaza -- they're going for an over-the-top "Victorian vacation by the shore" old-timey thing that doesn't appeal to me. The Bellmoor is nicer and more low-key, but it is a few blocks to the beach. If that distance doesn't bother you, I'd definitely choose the Bellmoor; the breakfast is nice, and the gardens and pools are lovely.

Agree with PP about renting a condo; this is what my family has always done. The problem is that many/most condos are weekly rentals and book ahead of the season, so if you're going this summer, it may be tough to find one. Still, it's worth calling the Edgewater House (where we stay), One Virginia, Star of the Sea, and The Henlopen (it is part hotel, part condo) just in case they have some openings.
