anyone elses child not finished their math and reading/writing packets yet (or is my kid the only one)? |
Still working on them. |
We finished the math packet and read throughout the summer, but we still have 3 writing assignments to do (already did 5). I'm so tempted to let this slide. |
They've done the reading but are still working on the math packets. And the rising 9th grader is still working on her French book, as well. |
I'm curious to know what school you are at, my daughter is at Ritchie Park, going into 1st grade and the packet is crazy. But I spoke to a parent at Bells Mill this weekend and they didn't even have a packet. |
What? My DC's never had anything but a 2 page math packet from K through 11th grade. Never had a language arts packet. Churchill cluster here. |
Ritchie park's language arts packet included 20 JOURNAL ENTRIES. For 1st graders.
|
Remember that these packets are optional at the ES level and are provided just to give your child opportunities to use his or her brain over the summer. There are often incentives (ie participation in an ice cream party) for completing them, but if they don't get done, it will not be the end of the world. |
I don't remember getting a packet-- we certainly did not do one. |
what are the math and reading packets? We just moved here and have a son going into 2nd. Should I have had him reviewing something? |
Our school suggests reading and gives a calendar of suggested math activities..like count the number of jumping jacks you can do...very low key and totally option. The whole school gets the same sheets...every year. There is some kid fo incentive for doing a certain amount of reading but we never participate. My kids read plenty of the documentation makes it feel too much like homework. |
finished our math activities last night. Like the above poster, our school gives a calendar for reading minutes each day and also about 30 math problems (hey, maybe it was as few as 25, maybe as many as 40; I'm totally blanking on it). They are due back this week.
We read every day; never a problem on that. But if he had to do a report or something, I know he'd complain. Of course, he has to still write his name and new teacher's name on the sheets! |
My rising 2nd grader had a 20+ page math packet, had to keep a reading log, and had to complete at least 8 writing assignments (they provided a suggested list of about 30 writing activities related to the books he read). |
